A new negative waits each morning. Beat par and you pull a gallery print. Waste moves and the grade drops. How it plays Photographs are cut into horizontal strips and shuffled. Flick a strip sideways — it lands on the floor. The correct bottom welds and stays. Two-photo exposures mix two negatives in one stack. Peek for three seconds. Recut once if the shuffle is cruel. Not a jigsaw. Not a 15-puzzle. There is no empty tile and no box of pieces. You are reprinting: matching seams, reading grain, trusting the floor.
