See what your photo reveals and copy it without location. Videos too.
See the date, device and location stored inside a photo, and make a copy without the location before you share it. Your original photo is never changed or deleted.
■ What you can see
- Whether the photo contains a location, shown first and in plain words.
- The coordinates, if there are any. You can pass them to a map app when you choose to.
- When it was taken, which device and lens took it, and its size.
- A full list of the details that could be read, with search. Press and hold a value to copy it.
■ Remove the location
- For JPEG photos, only the location is removed. The picture is not compressed again, so the image quality stays the same, and the date and device details stay too.
- After removing, the copy is read again to check that the standard location fields are gone. If that check does not pass, nothing is saved or shared.
- Share the copy right away, or save it to Pictures/ExifViewer.
- The result tells you what was removed. If a part of the file could not be checked, such as maker notes, it says so and suggests a clean copy.
- Remove the location from MP4, MOV and 3GP videos too. Picture and sound stay as they are, and the copy is saved to Movies.
■ Make a clean copy
- A clean copy keeps only the picture. All photo details are left out.
- This is how HEIC, PNG, WebP and other formats are handled, and you can choose it for JPEG photos as well.
- For JPEG, HEIC and WebP the picture is saved again as JPEG, so quality may drop slightly. PNG stays PNG.
- HDR and the moving part of a motion photo are not kept in a clean copy.
■ Several photos at once
- Choose up to 50 photos, or send them from your gallery with Share.
- The list shows which photos contain a location before you start.
■ How your photos are handled
- Only the photos you choose are read. The app never reads your whole gallery.
- To show a location that Android hides, the app asks once for your approval. You can remove location without it.
- Photos are read and processed on your device. Photos and their details, including coordinates, are not uploaded.
- The app keeps no history of the photos you opened.
■ Formats
- View details: JPEG, HEIC/HEIF, PNG, WebP, AVIF, DNG/TIFF. What can be shown depends on the file and on your device.
- Remove location without re-saving the picture: JPEG.
- Clean copy: any photo your device can display.
■ Good to know
- Things visible in the picture itself, such as signs, landmarks or watermarks, stay in the picture.
- "Remove location" clears the standard location fields. It does not open maker notes. If that matters to you, make a clean copy.
- A few JPEG files store their details in a way that cannot be changed in place. For those, the app offers a clean copy.
- Copies you already posted elsewhere are not changed.
- The app does not edit photo details, such as changing the date or adding a location.
- Videos that record a location track while filming, and fragmented MP4 files, can't be fully cleaned, so no copy is made.
