Japa mala counter for naam jap and parayana. Sankalpa targets and reminders.
Abhyasa is a quiet japa counter, and keeps parayana too: a mantra counter for naam jap, with your japa mala on the screen. The whole screen is your mala: tap, and a bead lights; at the end of each mala a soft bell, if you wish, and a longer pulse you can feel with your eyes closed. Every bead is kept the moment you count it, so there is nothing to save and nothing to lose.
COUNT THE WAY YOU CHANT
• 108 beads round a meru bead, on a dark screen made for early mornings, with Dim for a sleeping house
• A tap counts when your finger lifts, not for a brush of the sleeve; Pause stops all counting
• Undo takes back exactly what you last did
• Feel each tap through your phone's own touch vibration, and a longer pulse at the end of each mala
• Count with a Bluetooth clicker or page-turner, with the phone in your lap
• Any mala size: 108, 54, 27, 1008 or your own
• Or add the day's count in one tap, for any day
• Opened again within half an hour, Abhyasa is where you left it; Back never leaves the app while you count
A SANKALPA, OR SIMPLY A PRACTICE
• Just count, with no number to reach
• A total, in lakhs and crores: see what is done, what remains, and the day you will complete it at your present pace
• A count each day for a number of days, such as 11 malas for 40 days. After a missed day, you choose what your tradition asks: continue, make it up, or begin again
• Keep several practices side by side, each with its own mantra, Guru, target, mala size, dates and colour
• When a sankalpa is complete, Abhyasa prepares a message to your Guru, ready for WhatsApp, email or any app
PARAYANA, TOO
• Keep a parayana as a sankalpa: the Durga Saptashati, Bhagavad Gita, Soundarya Lahari, Sundarakanda, Lalita Sahasranama, Vishnu Sahasranama, Hanuman Chalisa, Kalabhairava Ashtakam, or any text of your own
• Read a long text over the days your tradition asks. The Durga Saptashati in one day, in three days (the three charitras) or in seven, with the Kavacha, Argala, Keelaka and the Rahasyas if you read them
• Each day shows that day's portion; tap Mark as read when it is done
• Count a stotra recited many times a day: 11 times a day for 21 days, or 108 times in all
• The same targets, history, reminders and message to your Guru as for japa
REMINDERS
• Choose up to three times a day and the days of the week. The phone rings them itself, even with the app closed. Start japa opens the counter at once
ON YOUR HOME SCREEN
• The Mala: today's malas on a ring of beads, on a dark tile. Tap it to count
• Your practice: your sankalpa, this week, and Start japa and Add, in light or dark
• Neither ever shows your mantra
YOUR MANTRA STAYS YOURS
• A mantra is private unless you choose otherwise: kept only on this phone, never sent to the server, never put into a message you share
• Show only the first letter of a practice's name, for a phone others may pick up
• Works fully offline. No account is needed. A reminder to save a copy, if you have no account
• Sign in with Google or your email, if you wish, to keep your counts safe on every device and when you change your phone. The same Dixith account signs you in to every other Dixith app. An emailed code always works, or set a password
• Save a copy or download everything as a spreadsheet, and delete your account from inside the app
• Nothing is sold or shared. Google Analytics counts which screens are opened, without your practices, counts, mantra or email
In English, Kannada and Hindi, with Indian scripts drawn properly. More languages will be added. Large text, screen readers and dark mode are all supported.
Abhyasa means steady practice. May your japa be steady and joyful.
