Count beads, read daily suttas and explore metta with a private practice journal
Mala brings a quiet bead counter together with short readings from early Buddhist discourses. Count at your own pace, read source and reflection side by side, and keep a record of what you notice.
ONE BEAD, ONE RETURN
Use the default 108-bead round, choose 27 or 54, or set a custom target. Each tap advances one bead. Undo an extra tap, keep your own words or intention beside the counter, and finish a session to save it in Journal. The active count is kept when you leave the app.
A DAILY SUTTA READING
Explore 32 excerpts from the Metta, Alavaka, Mangala and Dhammika discourses in V. Fausböll's public-domain 1881 Sutta-Nipata translation. Each reading names its discourse and passage. Original reflections, small exercises and questions are clearly separated from translated source text.
The full reading library stays available whenever you want it. Search by words or topic, bookmark a passage and adjust the reading text size. A daily home-screen widget brings a passage and its reference to your launcher.
SHORT GUIDED PRACTICES
Eight original modern guides cover settling, metta toward yourself and others, goodwill while walking, observing body sensations, noticing the tone of experience, recognising a state of mind and attentive conversation. Move through each guide one step at a time and save completed practices to Journal.
YOUR PRACTICE JOURNAL
Keep finished counting sessions, completed guides and personal reflections together. Add or edit a note, return to its source reading, or delete an individual record. Days practised are kept as a total, without a consecutive-day score.
SHARE A READING
Create an image of a source passage with its reference, translation credit, date and Mala's install link. The link also travels in the caption. Personal journal notes and counting-session intentions are left out of reading shares.
READ AT YOUR OWN PACE
Enable an optional daily reminder at your chosen hour. Lore articles explain the use of beads, the context of metta, the source edition and the difference between translated passages and modern practice notes.
Readings, guides, counting and journaling work offline. Advertising and the configured Firebase analytics integration can use a network connection. No account is needed for practice.
All practice features are available in the free app. An optional purchase removes advertising.
