Scan food labels for your allergens, "may contain" warnings and hidden names.
AllergenLens reads the ingredient list on packaged food and highlights anything that matches the allergens and diets in your profile, including "may contain" warnings and less obvious names like whey, casein or tahini. Scanning happens on your phone, and your health details never leave it.
WHO IT'S FOR
• People with food allergies, celiac disease or a food intolerance
• Parents checking snacks for a child's allergy
• Vegans, vegetarians and anyone avoiding gluten or lactose
• Travelers reading labels and explaining their allergies in another language
HOW IT WORKS
1. Set up your profile: allergens, diets and ingredients of your own
2. Scan the ingredient list, pick a photo or type the text
3. See a clear answer, with every matching word highlighted
YOUR PROFILE
• The FDA's major 9 allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame
• The rest of the EU's 14: cereals containing gluten, celery, mustard, lupin, molluscs and sulphites
• Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free diets
• Add ingredients of your own
• Mark each one as an intolerance, an allergy or a severe allergy; the most serious matches are listed first
READS THE WHOLE LABEL
• Scan live with the camera, pick a photo, or type the text
• Finds the ingredient list and the "Contains" and "May contain" statements
• Reads labels in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch
KNOWS OTHER NAMES
• Derived ingredients count toward their allergen: whey, casein and ghee as milk; albumin as egg; semolina, spelt and couscous as wheat; marzipan and praline as tree nuts; arachis oil as peanut; tahini as sesame
• Ingredients and E-numbers with more than one possible source, like lecithin (E322), are marked to check
FOUR CLEAR ANSWERS
• Contains: something from your profile is in the ingredients or a "Contains" statement
• May contain: the label warns of possible cross-contact
• Not found in the text we read: no match, which isn't a guarantee
• Couldn't read clearly: part of the label was blurry, cut off or too small
Every flagged word is highlighted, and a coverage indicator shows how much of the label was read.

PLEASE NOTE
AllergenLens helps you read labels. It is not medical advice and it can miss things: text can be misread, labels can be incomplete and recipes change. Always read the label on the package, ask the manufacturer when unsure, and if you have a severe allergy, follow your doctor's plan.
