Handyman Toolbox: Spirit Level

Handyman Toolbox puts four everyday tools in your phone: a spirit level, a slope gauge, a metal detector and a ruler. Open it, pick a tab, and measure. There is almost nothing to type. SPIRIT LEVEL Lay the phone flat to see a round bubble on two axes, or stand it on its edge against a shelf, door frame or wall to check level and plumb. A short beep and vibration tell you the moment it is level. Calibrate in two steps by turning the phone around - no perfectly flat surface needed. SLOPE Rest the back of the phone on a roof, stair, ramp or gutter. You get the angle in degrees, the slope in percent, the ratio (1 : x) and how many centimeters it rises per meter, all at once. METAL DETECTOR Slide the top of the phone slowly along a wall to find rebar, nails and steel pipes before you drill. It uses the magnetic sensor already in your phone; the beeps get faster as you get closer. It finds iron and steel only - not copper wire, aluminum or wood. RULER A ruler on the screen in centimeters and inches. Place a small object on the screen and drag the two lines to its ends. Calibrate once with any bank card or ID card so the size is right on your phone. SIMPLE AND OFFLINE No account, no sign-in, works without internet. Sound and vibration can be switched off. English and Indonesian. How accurate is it? Phone sensors are good for everyday jobs around the house. For structural work, check with a proper tool.
