Description
Paint materials on a plate and watch 👀 heat spread to a steady state
Paint materials on a plate and watch 👀 heat spread to a steady state.
Ice Fishing is a small heat lab for your phone 📱. You paint a square plate, set its hot and cold edges, and watch 👀 heat flow through it.
Choose from nine real materials: copper, aluminium, brass, carbon steel, granite, glass, brick, still water and still air. Each one has its true conductivity and diffusivity. Paint with your finger, place hot and cold pins, and set each edge as insulated or held at a fixed temperature.
Press play ▶️ and the plate fills with a temperature colour field. Isotherm lines are drawn and labelled. Place up to four probes, A to D, and follow their temperature over time ⏱️ in a chart 📊. The app 📱 shows the time step it uses, a convergence bar, and the time the plate takes to reach steady state. When the run settles, a result card shows the time, the number of steps, the mean temperature and the heat flow. The run is logged for you.
What you can do:
- Paint materials, hot and cold pins and edge temperatures
- Start 🚀 from a ready-made plate such as Copper Bar, Hot Corner or Window Pane
- Run, step, reset or fast ⚡-forward the solver
- Drag ✋ probes and read their traces
- Save 💾 plates with a name and a note 📝, and resume your last plate
- Cut the plate along a line and read the temperature profile
- View heat-flow arrows and a heat budget 💰 that shows heat in and out
- Browse an atlas of material values and try a live stability demo
Ice Fishing suits students, teachers and curious people who want to see 👀 how heat moves through different materials. Everything is computed on your device 📱, from your own plate.
Open Ice Fishing, paint a plate and press play ▶️.
