This app turns a painted pixel grid into the numbers you actually need at the table: how many stitches or beads, how much of each colour, and how big the finished piece will be. Start by setting your craft gauge and the size of the grid, then choose a palette of up to six colours. From there the work is simply tapping: each cell you touch takes the colour you have selected, and you build the design up square by square, the way the finished piece will really be worked. There is no translation step between what you see and what you will make — one cell on the screen is one stitch or one bead. While you paint, the measurements keep pace with you. The finished width and height and the count of used cells recompute live, and they are shown three ways at once: in centimetres, in inches, and in grid units. Widen the design by a few columns and you can see immediately what that costs in real size. Change the gauge and the same pattern resizes to suit the fabric or bead you have in mind. It makes the awkward question — will this fit? — something you answer while designing rather than afterwards. When a pattern is saved, it opens into a tally. Every colour in the palette is listed with the number of cells it occupies and its share of the design as a percentage, so you can see at a glance which shade is carrying the piece and which is barely there. Alongside that sits an estimate of the skeins or bead bags each colour will take, worked out from the gauge you chose, which turns a finished chart into something you can take shopping. The tally also gives the fabric cut size, with a margin you can adjust to match how you like to mount or frame your work. Set a generous border for stretching, or trim it close when material is short, and the cut measurements follow. It suits cross stitch, tapestry, perler and fuse bead designs, loom and brick stitch beadwork, pixel-style knitting and crochet charts, and anything else built square by square. Sketch a motif to see how many beads it swallows, size a monogram to a particular aida count, plan a border before committing the thread, or work out whether a favourite design can be squeezed onto the fabric already in your basket. The approach is deliberately plain. You paint, you watch the numbers move, you save, and you read off the counts. Nothing stands between the grid and the maths.
