Trifolau

Trifolau is a quiet night-time exploration game about the truffle hunters of the Langhe in Piedmont. It is two in the morning in a hazel and oak wood above Alba. Your lantern lights a small circle of leaves and your dog Lola sniffs ahead in the dark. Drag the lantern slowly through the undergrowth and watch Lola: her tail speeds up and her ears lift as the scent gets stronger. When she starts to dig, tap her quickly, or she will eat the truffle herself. Then clear the earth by hand. The little spade is faster but loud, and every cut costs you at the market. Rival hunters' lamps on the next hill notice fast movement and bright light, so shade your lantern and keep your steps soft. In the morning, take your finds to old Beppe and his brass scale at the Alba market. Truffles lose weight every day out of the ground, so sell them while they are fresh. Clean, uncut truffles earn Beppe's trust and open new woods. Features: • Three woods to hunt: Alba, the river poplars of Roddi and the oak ridges of Monforte • A dog you read by her tail and ears, with a real risk that she eats your find • Gentle digging by hand or with the spade, a trade-off between speed, noise and damage • Live weather and moon phase for the Langhe: humid nights carry scent further, a bright moon makes rivals watchful • Beppe's market: prices by the gram and by size class, grades, freshness and fair-weekend bonuses • A libretto of every night, plus hidden keepsakes to collect in each wood • Put your own dog in the game with a photo from your camera or gallery • An optional evening reminder that tells you what is drying out in your satchel Light the lantern, walk slowly, and trust the dog.
