Your own video or photo as a live wallpaper: trim it, fit it, check it runs
Set your own clip as a video live wallpaper — or a photo, or a generated pattern. Motion Wall trims and frames it, keeps it set after a restart and shows you that it is really running on your home screen.
▶ STAYS SET AFTER A RESTART
• Your phone starts the wallpaper again after a restart, and Motion Wall reads its saved setup every time it starts — the same clip, trim, framing and speed come back.
• While the clip gets ready, or if the phone can't decode it, your still frame is shown instead of a black screen, and it retries after 2, 10 and 60 seconds.
▶ SEE THAT IT REALLY RUNS
• Tap Set wallpaper and confirm in the system preview. Back in the app, it asks the phone what is set and shows the result: "Set on home screen · drawing", how many frames it drew and the screen size.
• The "Now on your phone" card on the main screen keeps checking: Home ✓, the lock-screen state, frames drawn and how long ago.
• If something is wrong, the card names it — another wallpaper is set, Motion Wall isn't set, the clip can't be decoded (with codec and size) or the file is missing — with a Fix button.
• Already your wallpaper? A new wall switches in place, without the system preview.
▶ TRIM, FIT AND SPEED
• Trim 1 to 60 seconds with two handles on a filmstrip.
• See the length and how often it repeats, for example "5.5 s · repeats every 3.7 s".
• Speed: 0.5×, 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5× or 2×.
• Blend loop seam: off, 0.3, 0.5 or 1 second, so the end fades into the first frame.
• Fill, Fit, Stretch or Original. In Fill, drag to choose the part you see and pinch to zoom up to 4×. Fit adds bars in one of 5 colors; Original shows 1 video pixel per screen pixel.
• The preview has your wallpaper's shape, with a clock and icon guide to frame around.
▶ PHOTOS AND PATTERN
• Make a photo move: slow zoom (up to 8% and back every 12 seconds), a sideways pan, or keep it still.
• No clip at hand? Try the generated pattern — it moves on its own and uses no file.
• Keep up to 50 walls in My walls, each tile with its length, speed and size in MB. Deleting has a 5-second Undo.
▶ EASY ON THE BATTERY
• It plays while your home screen is visible, pauses when it's hidden and releases the video after 30 seconds.
• Turn on "Still image in battery saver" to show a still while battery saver is on.
▶ GOOD TO KNOW
• The system preview decides whether the wallpaper goes on the home screen or on home and lock screen; apps can't choose. Some lock screens don't show live wallpapers — you can put a still frame on the lock screen instead.
• The lock-screen state can be read on system version 14 and later; on older versions the card shows "unknown".
• Clips play without sound. Source videos up to 2 GB, the part you keep up to 300 MB. HDR clips are shown in standard range; GIFs use their first frame.
• If your phone has no decoder for a clip, the app tells you when you pick it.
• Your videos and photos are processed on your phone and stored in the app; the app doesn't upload them. Walls aren't included in backups. If you uninstall the app, your phone returns to its default wallpaper.
• Ads: a banner on the main screen, and sometimes a full-screen ad after you tap Done on a wallpaper that was set. Ads never appear in the editor.
What's new
If "Set wallpaper" can't open the live wallpaper screen on your phone, Motion Wall now opens your phone's own wallpaper app instead. If no wallpaper screen opens at all, your wall stays saved and a card explains how to set it from your home screen (menu names differ by phone). The same short tip appears when Motion Wall isn't on your home screen after you return.
