Orowin The dust road glows at golden hour, and your rally car runs along one of three pace bands laid across the stage. Tap above the car and it lifts into a band that carries it quicker; tap below and it settles into a slower one. There is no throttle to hold and no brake to stand on — there is only the band you pick and the moment you pick it. Every checkpoint gate carries a countdown, and reaching it is not the point. Crossing it at the instant the clock reads zero is. A shade early is a mistake; a shade late is the very same mistake. So you read the clock ahead, weigh it against the road still to cover, and shift bands until the two line up. Plokvrandis Rally is about arriving exactly, not arriving first, and that one change turns a rally stage into a puzzle you solve at speed. Fourteen stages take the idea apart piece by piece. At first there is a single gate, a single clock and plenty of road in which to correct yourself. Then the gates multiply, and the band that suits the gate in front of you is the wrong band for the one behind it, so every tap has to answer two questions at once. The on-time window narrows until the difference between a clean crossing and a ruined one is one deliberate touch. Far clocks stay hidden, and you learn to run on the rhythm you have already built rather than on anything you can see. Orowin From the ninth stage the bands themselves stop behaving. Mid-run they swap their pace: the quick band turns slow, the slow one turns quick, and the plan you committed to a moment ago has to be rebuilt while the car keeps rolling. Timing that was comfortable becomes a question of recognising the swap and answering it before the next gate arrives. What grows is not your reflexes so much as your sense of pace. After a few stages you stop counting and start feeling the gap between where the car is and where the clock wants it to be, and the correcting tap comes a beat before you could explain why. Sometimes you glide through three gates without a single adjustment, which is the quiet reward the whole game is pointed at.
