Shogi for two phones. No internet, no sign-up: pick a room number and play
Shogi for Two is a head-to-head Shogi (Japanese chess) for two Android phones. One player taps "Create room" to get a room number, the other taps "Find room" and picks that number. That's it: no internet, no account, no pairing. The phones connect directly to each other over Bluetooth, so you can play even where there is no signal.
HOW TO PLAY
1. One player taps "Create room". A big 4-digit room number appears.
2. The other player taps "Find room" and picks the same number from the rooms found nearby.
3. As soon as the phones connect, the game starts. Who moves first (Sente) in the first game is decided at random. The board is turned so that your side is always at the bottom.
4. Tap one of your pieces (or a piece in hand) to see where it can go, then tap the destination. You can also drag a piece on the board and release it.
5. When a move can promote, you choose "Promote" or "Don't promote".
6. When the game ends you see the result (win, loss or draw) and the reason. If both players tap "Rematch", the next game starts with the sides swapped.
FEATURES
- No internet, no account, no pairing
- Connect just by choosing a room number
- Full shogi rules: piece moves, promotion, dropping captured pieces, and the bans on double pawns (nifu), pieces with no legal move, and pawn-drop checkmate (uchifuzume)
- Moves that leave your king in check are not allowed, and "Check!" is shown when you are in check
- Checkmate, repetition (same position 4 times is a draw) and perpetual check (the side giving check loses) are detected automatically
- If you try an illegal move, a short message tells you why (not your turn, you must answer the check...)
- The last move is shown in kifu notation (for example, move 12: 3-4 pawn). Piece and kifu characters stay in kanji
- Move sound, and a short vibration on the opponent's move, with a sound on/off switch
- Resign at any time (with a confirmation dialog)
- If the connection drops, the position stays as it was. Rejoin the same room and continue where you left off
- Available in English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean (follows your device language)
FREE AND PRO
The free version has every gameplay feature and shows ads:
- Banner ads: at the bottom of the home, waiting and room-list screens; at the top of the game screen, away from the board
- A full-screen ad: only after a finished game, when you tap "Rematch" or "Home". At most once per game and at least 2 minutes apart. Never during a game
- Ad content is limited to PG
Pro (one-time purchase, 100 JPY, no subscription) removes all ads. Gameplay is the same as the free version. If you change phones, tap "Restore purchase" on the home screen.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Two Android 8.0+ phones with Bluetooth Low Energy
- The app asks for the "Nearby devices" permission (on Android 11 and earlier, "Location", which the system requires for Bluetooth scanning only; the app does not use your location)
- Keep the two phones close together and the screens on during a game
- The internet is used only to show ads and check purchases, never for the game itself
PRIVACY

- Your player name and moves are sent only to the opponent's phone, never to the developer
- No location is collected
- Ads are provided by Google AdMob. In the EEA, the UK and some other regions you are asked for consent first, and you can change it later from the home screen
NOTES

- Connecting may sometimes be difficult depending on the phone model and radio conditions. If so, move the phones closer and try again
- Android only (no iPhone version)
- Bluetooth is a trademark of Bluetooth SIG, Inc.
