Description
Hold the green speed gate and cut the inside line to the finish
Your go-kart never waits for you. The moment a sprint begins it is already accelerating down a short strip of asphalt, and the painted corner gates come rushing up to meet you. Every one of those corners asks the same question: do you dare to take the inside, or do you give the corner its room and sweep around the outside?
Swipe left and the kart tucks into the tight inside line, clipping the apex and saving precious metres. Swipe right and it swings out into the long outside sweep — safer, steadier, but a longer way round. That is the whole of the steering, and it is all you need, because the real decision is not which way to swipe but when you have earned the right to swipe at all.
Watch the speed bar. The inside line is only yours while the bar is sitting inside the green gate; carry too much speed, or too little, and the kart simply cannot hold that line. So you learn to read the bar as you read the track, feeling for the window where the tight line opens up and committing to it in a single flick of the thumb. Get it right and you carve through the corner with the gate colours flashing past. Get it wrong and the outside sweep is there to catch you, costing you distance you will have to win back on the next bend.
And you do need to win it back, because a rival kart is running the same strip of asphalt beside you, taking its own lines and making its own choices. The finish line only cares who crosses it first, which turns every corner into a small wager: play it safe and stay close, or gamble on the inside and open up a gap.
Thirteen levels take that wager and sharpen it. The corners arrive faster, leaving less time to judge the bar, and the green gate itself narrows until the inside line becomes a reward for genuine precision rather than a habit. Early tracks let you learn the rhythm of swipe, settle, swipe. Later ones expect you to know it by heart and to realise, in the half-second before the paint reaches your front wheels, exactly which line the kart can hold.
It is a game built for short, repeatable runs: a sprint lasts as long as a sprint should, and the moment it ends you know precisely which corner cost you the race. One more go, one better line, one cleaner pass through the gate.
