Description
Slide on thin ice, eat fish
Ice Penguin feels a bit like crossing a puddle on stepping stones, except every stone sinks the moment you step off it.
Swipe, and your penguin belly-slides across the pond until a snow block stops it. Fish are frozen into the ice, and you must gobble every one to clear the pond. The catch is the thin ice: each tile cracks behind you and can be crossed only once. Slide back over a cracked tile and it is a splash.
DAY ONE
You meet Pip, a little Adélie with a big appetite, on the calm Bay Ice. The first ponds are small and gentle, so you learn the basics: dark leads of open water never hold you, and grey rocks never crack, so you can cross those as often as you like. Fall in and Undo climbs you straight back out, although each undo still counts as a move. Stuck? The Hint button lights up where your next good slide ends.
AFTER A WEEK
Pack Ice brings floes, rocks and leads in tighter knots. Now you are thinking several slides ahead, saving the rock tiles for the crossings you will need twice. Clearing a pond within par earns three stars and a snowflake for your Snowflake Album, each one drawn uniquely, so no two are alike. Pebbles from every pond let you welcome new birds into the Colony: Gentoo, Chinstrap, the spiky-browed Rockhopper, Macaroni and Little Blue.
MASTERY
Glacier Edge is thin ice nearly everywhere, ten ponds where a single careless swipe ends the run. Thirty ponds in all, with the King and the Emperor waiting in the colony for patient players. Badges reward clean play, such as Dry Feathers for five ponds in a row without falling in, and the Expedition Log tracks your slides, fish eaten and splashes. Every morning a fresh Daily Floe appears, and clearing it three days running earns the Regular badge.
