Humour Married to Wisdom. Illustrated Hodja tales, retold in English.
The Lost Laugh is a small library of Nasreddin Hodja tales, the old village jokes of the Hodja and his donkey, retold in plain modern English. Each takes about two minutes. You laugh first. Then you think. Then you look up.
Under every tale, three short layers open one at a time:
• The mind: what the joke shows about how we think, from the streetlight effect to the way a crowd changes our minds.
• Where this points: the joke read as a pointer to God, in a few quiet lines. Not tied to any one faith.
• Try it today: one small thing to carry into the day.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• 210 tales on 15 themes, from Pride and the robe to Patience, Honesty, and Fear and worry
• A tale of the day, the same for every reader on the same date
• What's on your mind? Choose how the day feels and the app finds a tale for it
• Eight short paths: a few tales in a row on one thing, such as worry, anger or letting go
• Go deeper on every tale: three more readings, and the places in a life where the joke applies
• Search every tale by a word
• Save the tales that stay with you
• A journal for a line or two after a tale, with a backup file you keep yourself
• Listen: the tale read aloud, recorded or in your device's own voice

• A storybook picture for every tale, and quiet vignettes, in gold frames
• Day and Night, three text sizes, and a Calm setting with less motion
QUIET BY DESIGN
Your saved tales, reading place and journal stay on your device. There is no account or sign-in. The tales, pictures and fonts are inside the app, so you can read offline. Google AdMob may collect advertising and diagnostic data; see our privacy policy.
WHERE THE TALES COME FROM
The tales are centuries-old folklore. We retell them in our own words from public-domain collections, and each tale names the collection it comes from.
Two minutes a day is plenty. There is nothing to keep up with.
