Launched in 2015 under the theme “Securing Crop and Family Health,” Govi Mithuru was introduced as a mobile-based solution to address information gaps in agriculture and make reliable agricultural knowledge more accessible to farmers across Sri Lanka. The service provides information customised to each farmer’s needs and farming context, considering factors such as cultivation stage, location, irrigation method, seed type and other relevant conditions. By delivering the right information at the right time, Govi Mithuru supports farmers throughout their agricultural activities, from land preparation and cultivation to crop protection and harvesting. Govi Mithuru provides a wide range of agricultural information, including crop management practices, crop protection, pest and disease information, home gardening, floriculture, crop pricing. The crop pricing service provides daily wholesale price information collected from major marketplaces and economic centers, helping farmers stay informed about current market conditions. The service also incorporates AI-powered agricultural support, including AI-based pest and disease identification, along with Voice AI and voice chatbot capabilities that make agricultural information and advisory support more accessible and convenient for farmers. Govi Mithuru is designed to provide information through text, multimedia and voice-based content in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Farmers can also receive timely notifications and emergency alerts related to changing agricultural conditions, including pest attacks, disease outbreaks and other potential risks. These timely updates help farmers stay informed and take appropriate action when necessary. Govi Mithuru continuously updates its agricultural content to ensure that farmers have access to relevant and up-to-date information covering a growing range of agricultural needs. The content is provided through the Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka, and other authorised institutions, supporting farmers with trusted agricultural knowledge. By combining customised agricultural advisory services, contextual information, AI-powered solutions, voice-based assistance, market information and timely alerts, Govi Mithuru aims to empower Sri Lankan farmers with accessible knowledge and technology to make better-informed decisions and improve their farming practices.
