Record lectures and meetings. Transcribed on your phone, never uploaded.
Tapebook is a voice recorder that writes everything down on your phone. Record a lecture, a meeting or a quick idea, and read it back with every word lit up as it plays. The speech engine runs on the phone itself, so your recordings and transcripts never leave it.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Transcribed on your phone. Nothing is uploaded, ever.
• No account and no sign in.
• The app has no internet permission at all, so it cannot send your words anywhere.
• Works on a train, in a lecture hall basement or in flight mode.
• Your recordings stay in the app's own storage until you choose to share or export one.
RECORD IN ONE TAP
• Unlimited recording, free.
• Keeps recording with the screen off or while you use other apps.
• Pause, resume and drop marks at the moments that matter.
• If the app is closed or the phone restarts mid recording, the recording is kept up to that point.
READ ALONG
• Every word lights up like a highlighter as it plays.
• Tap any word to jump straight to it.
• Fix a word by pressing and holding its paragraph.
• Slow down or speed up playback.
FREE
• Unlimited recording
• Transcripts of recordings up to 15 minutes (longer recordings get their first 15 minutes)
• Playback with every word highlighted
• Copy the text of any transcript
• Try the built in sample meeting to see how it works
TAPEBOOK PRO, PAY ONCE OR YEARLY
Choose Lifetime, a single payment, or the yearly plan (with a 7 day free trial for new subscribers where Google Play offers it). Both plans unlock exactly the same Pro:
• Transcribe recordings of any length, from long lectures to all day workshops.
• More accurate models: English Plus makes about a fifth fewer mistakes, and European languages covers 25 languages. They download once through Google Play and then run on the phone.
• Speaker labels: see who said what, then give each speaker their real name. Worked out on your phone.
• Import audio and video files: voice notes, MP3s, podcasts and the sound of your videos.
• Export to text, subtitles (SRT and VTT), Markdown or a Word document.
• Search every transcript at once.
• Summaries: key points written by Gemini Nano on phones that have it, and the key sentences picked from your transcript on every other phone. Both run on the phone.
Prices are shown in full before you buy. The trial screen shows the exact day Google Play will charge, the app reminds you two days before, and you can cancel any time in Google Play. You can move from the yearly plan to Lifetime whenever you like. No weekly or monthly plans.
GOOD FOR
• Students recording lectures and seminars, ready for revision season
• Meetings, interviews and research notes
• Voice memos and ideas you want to find again
ASK BEFORE YOU RECORD
Please tell people you are recording and why, and stop if anyone objects. Recording someone without their agreement can break privacy law, and many schools, universities and workplaces have their own rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
• The free model is English. Speed depends on your phone: on a typical mid range phone an hour of audio takes several minutes to transcribe, and it carries on in the background.
• Transcripts are made by a speech model and can contain mistakes, especially with noise, music or people talking over each other. Check anything important against the recording.
• Gemini Nano summaries need a phone that supports Gemini Nano.
