Cymatics Art

Cymatics Art turns your phone into a Chladni plate: a plate covered in sand that you play with sound. Each note makes the plate vibrate in its own shape, and the sand jumps off the moving parts and gathers on the still lines, drawing the pattern. Change the note and the sand rearranges itself. Play it with your voice Hum, sing, whistle or play an instrument near your phone. The app hears the pitch and loudness and moves the sand to match. Louder sound shakes it harder; go quiet and the pattern stays put. Or play a tone Slide through the notes from 80 to 1000 Hz and hear the tone as the sand moves. Higher notes draw busier patterns. 84 patterns on three plates Square, circle and violin shaped plates, each with 28 patterns that blend from one to the next as the pitch changes. Six looks Chladni Sand, Liquid Ripple and Lattice Glow, plus Aurora Plate, Ember Sand and Crystal Lattice in Pro. Save clips and images Save clip keeps the last few seconds of the plate, just as you saw it, with the sound, and puts it in your gallery. Save image keeps the plate as it is now. Free, with a one-time Pro unlock Free: the square plate, three looks, 5 second clips in 720p with a small watermark, and images with a watermark. Pro: the circle and violin plates, three more looks, your own sand colour, clips up to 30 seconds in 1080p with no watermark, and full-size images. One-time purchase, no subscription. Your sound stays on your phone. The app works offline and needs no account. A note on accuracy: the patterns come from the maths of vibrating plates, not from one real plate, so the pitches will not match a plate on your desk. It is a sound art toy, not a lab instrument.

Big update. The mic now really listens: sing, hum, whistle or play and the sand follows your pitch and loudness. The tone plays out loud. Real sand that settles onto the still lines, 84 patterns on square, circle and violin plates (try each Pro plate for 10 seconds), and clips that replay exactly what you saw, with sound. New: save images. If you bought Pro, it now includes the new plates, colours and longer clips.
