APK Report

APKreport is a privacy checker for the apps on your Android phone. It shows what each one is made of - the trackers it carries, the permissions it asks for, what it keeps running in the background, and what its developers left behind - and scores it from 0 to 100, with every reason shown. HOW IT WORKS • The app lists the apps installed on your phone. It asks you first, before it reads that list. • You choose which apps to check. Their installation files (APKs) go to apkreport.com, where each one is taken apart and read, never run. • Every app you check gets a score from 0 to 100, with the reasons beside it. WARNINGS THAT COME FIRST • Known stalkerware - apps made to spy on a partner or a child - from the open list kept by Echap, with what to do and where to find help • Fakes: an app with the name and icon of a popular one, signed by someone else • An app signed with another key than its Google Play version • The combination banking trojans use: an accessibility service with access to SMS, drawing over other apps, device administration or installing apps A SCORE WITH ITS REASONS Six axes - security, tracking, build hygiene, packaging, access and background - each a short rule applied to facts in the report. The score is their average. Every line that cost or earned points is shown; nothing is rewarded for being hidden. WHAT YOU SEE • The trackers and the dangerous permissions in each app • What starts by itself when the phone is switched on, and what runs in the background • Which apps need a look, and what pulls your phone's score down • Which apps have special powers on the phone: reading your notifications or messages, seeing what you type • How your phone's score changes over time • When you install or update an app: its score in a notification, and for an update, what changed • Where your data may go: the companies behind each app's trackers, and their countries • When a newer version of an app is out, and what it brings BACKUP Save your apps to a backup file on your phone or on a drive, and put them back on this phone or on your next one. Putting an app back goes through Android's own installer, which asks you first. YOUR DATA • What leaves the phone: the names and versions of your apps, the store that installed each and the fingerprint of its signing key, so that apkreport.com can say which it has checked already and warn you of fakes and stalkerware (that question is kept nowhere); the installation files of the apps you choose, and, where your account checks new apps by itself, of the apps you install or update - which you can turn off; the phone's model, its Android version and the identifier Android gives the app. The list of every app is kept with your checks only if you turn that on. • Nothing else: no contacts, messages, photos, location, or anything the apps keep inside. • Your reports are private: only you see them, and anyone you send a link to. Others see an app's public card only for versions that came from Google Play, and nothing on it says who sent them. • No ads, and your data is not sold. WHAT THE APP ASKS ANDROID FOR • To see all installed apps, so it can list them and check the ones you choose. • To install apps, only to put your own apps back from your backup, with your confirmation. • To show notifications, for the progress of a check or a backup that goes on while you use the phone. You sign in with e-mail or with Google; the same account works on apkreport.com. A free account is enough to start. A score is computed from what an app's files contain. It is not a verdict that an app is safe or unsafe. APKreport is made by Damir Dizdarević PR, Belgrade, Serbia. It is not affiliated with Google or with the makers of the apps it checks.
