TouchDisabler: Touch Lock

Your child taps the screen, and the cartoon pauses, jumps to another video or closes. TouchDisabler is a touch lock for parents: one tap on a small bubble turns off screen touches, and the video keeps playing. Hand over the phone or tablet and get on with your own things. Taps, swipes and the buttons at the bottom of the screen no longer do anything until you turn touches back on. How it works 1. Pick the video apps, for example YouTube or YouTube Kids. A small bubble appears over them. 2. Tap the bubble, then the lock button. Touches are off, the video keeps playing. 3. To turn touches back on, tap the bubble and hold the lock button for 1.5 seconds. A toddler will not do that by accident. What the touch lock blocks • Taps and swipes on the screen • The Back, Home and Recents buttons of the 3-button navigation bar • The status bar and notifications • The Back gesture • The volume buttons, if you turn this on in Settings (they still work during a call) More for parents • Play and pause from the bubble menu, without turning touches on • Cartoon timer: set the minutes in the bubble menu. At the end the sound fades out gently, the video pauses and a calm “the cartoon is over” screen appears while touches stay off • If the child leaves the video (for example with the Home gesture), TouchDisabler opens it again right away and the video continues • During an incoming call touches turn on, so you can answer • Show the bubble only over the apps you picked, or everywhere • Pick the bubble’s look (dot, sun, bunny, kitty, star), size and transparency • English and Ukrainian, follows the device language Works best with 3-button navigation. With gesture navigation, Android does not let any app block the Home and Recents gestures, so a child can leave the video, but TouchDisabler brings it back at once. Privacy TouchDisabler needs the Android Accessibility service to cover the screen and the navigation buttons. The service only sees the name of the app on screen, to show the bubble over the apps you picked. It does not read screen content, and what it sees never leaves the device. The app sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, which you can turn off in Settings. No ads, no accounts. While the beta lasts, TouchDisabler is free. Later it will become paid, but you will know in advance and have time to decide without hurry.
