Green Reader: Golf Slope

Green Reader is a golf green reader and putting slope meter for Android. Lay your phone flat on the green near your putt line and its motion sensor reads how the surface tilts: the grade in percent and degrees, the downhill direction, and an estimate of how many inches the putt will break and where to aim. HOW A READ WORKS 1. Walk to a spot on your line and rest the phone flat on the grass. If it is tilted more than about 8°, the reader asks you to lay it flat instead of showing a read. 2. Point the top of the phone toward the hole. If needed, turn the on-screen putt line in 15° steps. No compass is involved. 3. Set the putt distance in feet and the green speed as a Stimp value from 6 to 14 (leave it at 10 for an average green). 4. Read the result: a top-down green with the hole, your ball, the aim line, a downhill arrow and a curved putt path, plus a headline such as "Aim 10" right of the hole" and a pace note. WHAT THE READER SHOWS • Green slope as a large percent figure, with degrees from level underneath. The card color shifts as the slope gets steeper. • The slope split into the part along your line (pace) and the part across it (break). • Aim to the high side: the ball bends toward the low side, so the read tells you which side of the hole to start it on. • Pace cues: "firm it up" when the putt plays uphill, "ease off" when it plays downhill. • A bubble level with a Set level button. Rest the phone on a surface you know is flat, tap it, and the app zeroes out your phone's own sensor offset. If the phone is tilted more than about 5° or still moving, Set level does not save and tells you why. Reset it any time. • Your line, distance and green speed stay as you left them for the next putt. PUTT LOG AND STATS Record each putt with its distance (feet or meters), the break you read (left, straight or right) and whether it dropped. The app shows your overall make percentage and a breakdown by distance band (0–3, 4–6, 7–10, 11–20 and 21+ ft; shown as 0–1.2, 1.2–2.1, 2.1–3.4, 3.4–6.4 and 6.4+ m when you use meters), plus a list of recent putts. PRACTICE DRILLS • Ladder: three putts each from 3, 6 and 9 ft, target 60%. • Pressure: five in a row from 3 ft; every one has to drop. • Lag: six long putts from 20 to 40 ft, target 50%. Each drill keeps your top score, so you can watch your progress on the practice green. GOOD TO KNOW The slope comes from your phone's motion sensor and is approximate. The break number comes from a rolling-ball model of one even slope at your green speed, with the ball finishing about 17 in past the hole; on very long or steep putts it says the break is too large to estimate instead of guessing. It is not a measurement. Grain, moisture, footprints, several slopes between ball and hole, or the phone resting on an uneven patch all change the real roll. The slope read now works straight away, measured against gravity - no more "Set level" that refused a phone in your hand or zeroed out a sloped green. New "Calibrate (optional)": on a table or hard floor, set the phone down and turn it end to end three times; it removes your phone's own sensor or case offset and saves only if the readings repeat. Old level zeros are cleared once.
