Watchmaker: Watch Repair

Watchmaker is a calm puzzle game about repairing mechanical watches. Take a stopped watch onto the bench, open its case, take it apart piece by piece, clean it, find what is broken, put it back together, oil it, and hear it tick again. SIX WATCHES, SIX STORIES • A gold pocket watch: a wheel with a broken tooth. • A military wristwatch: it will not run however much it is wound; the mainspring has snapped. • A classic dress watch: the dial side first, with the hands and the wheels beneath. • A calendar watch: a date disc, its jumper, and oil dried hard over years. • An automatic watch: a rotor, a reversing wheel and a worn bearing. • A chronograph: a column wheel, a clutch, and more than one fault this time. A REAL MOVEMENT • Every part is drawn in code to real dimensions: wheel teeth, Geneva-striped bridges, ruby jewels, blued steel screws. • The watch beats 18,000 times an hour; the balance swings, the pallet fork ticks, the wheels turn at their true ratios. • Look closely: tap any part to see its name and what it does. THE STEPS OF A REPAIR • Take it apart: turn screws out with your finger and lift parts with tweezers, in the right order. • Clean: scrub off dust with the brush, wash old oil away in the cleaning bath. • Find the fault: look things over with the loupe and spot the broken tooth, the bent staff or the snapped spring. • Mend it: pick the spare with exactly the right measurements from the drawer. • Put it back: drag parts into place, oil the jewels with just the right drop, wind the crown. • Regulate: move the index lever until the timegrapher line runs flat.
