Stadl Plattler

Stadl Plattler is a rhythm game about the Schuhplattler, the slap-and-stomp dance of the Trachtenverein lads in Bavarian and Tyrolean mountain villages. It is Saturday night in a wooden barn, the brass band is playing a Ländler in 3/4 time, and your dancer is on the boards. You play the hands and feet, one slap at a time. Slap cues for thigh, sole, knee and clap slide down four lanes on the beat. Tap the round ones, double-tap the tall ones and swipe the wide ones for the heel slap behind your back. Keep the chain alive and the crowd dances with you; miss a slap and the barn goes quiet. The band speeds up every verse, and a Juchzer shout marks the fever section where every slap counts double. Watch the lanes, listen for the tuba and let your thumbs find the swing. Each night in Stadl Plattler you share the floor with a rival Plattler group, and their habits bend the band: the old Miesbach pair drag the tempo, the young Zillertal crew rush the beat, and the Munich tent regulars do both. Read their tempo curve before you step up, then beat their score. Your season follows real Alpine customs, from the Kirchweih dance in a Chiemgau barn to the Leonhardi evening in Bad Tölz, the last dance before Advent, Fasching in the Zillertal, the dance into May, midsummer at the hut on the Zugspitze and the opening Saturday of the Oktoberfest tent in Munich. Each new night is unlocked with a Gamsbart, the chamois-hair tuft for your hat.
