Aurora forecast and alerts, tonight’s sky, eclipses, ISS and the solar system
Tonight, from where you are.
Cénit is a pocket observatory for people who look up. It works out the sky over your head on your own phone (planets, stars, the Moon, the Space Station) and tells you honestly whether tonight is worth going outside.
Will there be an aurora?
Cénit reads the NOAA aurora model and the cloud forecast for your exact spot, and gives you one number: the chance of seeing it on your horizon, right now. With the alert on, it checks every 30 minutes and tells you when there is a real chance.
Point it at the sky.
Hold your phone up and the sky map turns with you. Every bright dot gets a name: planets, stars, the 88 constellations and 140 galaxies, nebulae and clusters, each with a real telescope photo from NASA, ESA or ESO.
Is tonight a good night?
A score out of 100 for darkness, clouds and the Moon, and the best hour to go out. Sunrise, sunset, golden and blue hour. Space Station passes you can see without a telescope. Eclipses, meteor showers and supermoons in your local time.
The solar system, live.
The eight planets where they really are today, worked out from NASA JPL orbits. Travel to any date. Tap Jupiter: tonight it is over 800 million km away and its light took about 46 minutes to reach you.
Both hemispheres.
From Tromsø to Sydney: the southern sky has its own showpieces, like the Magellanic Clouds, Omega Centauri and the Jewel Box.
Cénit Pro (subscription, cancel anytime in Google Play): aurora and Space Station alerts, the best night of the week, all 140 deep-sky objects and no ads.
Independent app. Aurora data: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. Clouds: Open-Meteo. Photos: NASA, ESA, ESO and other public archives, each credited in the app. Not affiliated with any agency.
