Bottom of the ninth, one run in it. You're sent in to pinch run at first base, and you have one job: steal. Second, third, and even home. 100 tries — how many bases can you steal? ■ THE LEAD-AND-PICKOFF DUEL • Hold LEAD to shuffle off the bag, let go to get back • A bigger lead means a better jump — and more pickoff throws • When you see "PICKOFF!", get back. Too far off? Dive back head-first • Watch out for fake throws followed by a quick pitch ■ YOU GO ON THE PITCH — THE REST IS SPEED AND GUTS • You take off automatically on the pitch. Hold DASH to sprint • Slide before the bag — the button flashes "NOW!" when the timing is right • Head-first is the fastest, but go too early and you come up short, too late and you overslide • Feet-first is a bit slower but safe. Don't slide at all and you save your stamina • Bang-bang plays go to slow motion.
