StarVegas Nolvekarsti Blocks is a quiet puzzle about one simple question: will it all fit? In front of you sits an empty bordered frame. Beside it, a tray of polyomino tiles cut from inlaid wood — each one a different little arrangement of squares. Drag a tile out of the tray and set it down inside the frame. Tap a tile to turn it ninety degrees, and keep turning until it sits the way you need it to. Then reach for the next one. A level is finished the moment two things are true at once: the tray is empty, and the frame is full. No tile may overlap another, and not a single hole may be left over. That is the whole rule, and it is strict — a frame that is ninety-nine per cent filled is not filled. The last gap is always the shape of the last tile, and realising that is half the pleasure. StarVegas There are 14 frames to work through, and they do not stay simple rectangles. Later ones are notched along their edges, so a long tile that looked obvious suddenly has nowhere to go. Some are ring-shaped, with the whole centre closed off, which turns the puzzle into a careful walk around a loop. Others carry fixed studs set into the board itself: immovable points your tiles have to fit around rather than through, so the awkward L-shaped and T-shaped pieces you were saving for last become the only ones that work. The pleasure here is the pleasure of packing a box properly. You try a piece, it very nearly works, you rotate it, it still very nearly works — and then you take it back out and realise the problem was three tiles ago. Nothing is lost by undoing. Lift any tile back into the tray and begin that corner again. There is no clock counting down and no score to chase, only a frame that is either exactly filled or not yet. Everything is presented in warm wood tones, grain and grey-brown borders, as though you were turning pieces over on a workbench rather than a screen. The tiles have weight to them. They settle into place.
