Measure roof pitch in x/12, degrees and percent with a sensor-based gauge
Measure roof pitch with your phone's motion sensor and keep an approximate slope reading ready for planning. Roof Pitch Gauge shows x/12, degrees, percent grade and rise per 10, then helps you carry a selected reading into a simple roof estimate.
PLACE, HOLD AND READ
Lay the phone flat on an accessible roof deck or rafter with its screen facing up. Keep it secure and still. The stability ring fills and the reading locks, so the value remains visible after you lift the phone. The ring indicates stillness, not measurement accuracy. Tap the main value to switch notation; x/12 is displayed in half steps, with an approximation mark when rounded.
CALIBRATE THE PHONE AND CASE
Use a known level surface for a single-reading calibration, or read the same spot twice while turning the phone end-for-end between readings. Calibration compensates for a fixed tilt caused by the phone or case; it does not certify the sensor or correct every unstable contact. Recheck the setup when you change the case.
KEEP READINGS FOR A JOB
Store up to 60 readings to compare roof faces. View the common rafter/area factor and hip/valley factor for the selected pitch, then pass it to the estimator. Minimum-slope comparisons use embedded 2021 IRC R905 references for seven roof-covering categories and the unrounded reading. These are US model-code reference checks, not local approval. Follow applicable local rules and the material manufacturer's instructions.
ESTIMATE A SIMPLE GABLE ROOF
Enter the rectangular building footprint in feet or meters, overhang, bundle coverage and waste allowance. Review common rafter length, sloped roof area, roofing squares and rounded-up shingle bundle quantities. A roofing square is 100 square feet. A separate hip/valley rafter length uses a diagonal at 45 degrees in plan; this does not turn the area estimate into a complete hip-roof takeoff. Save and restore up to 30 estimates. Dormers, complex shapes and additional roof details need separate allowances and checks before ordering.
CAMERA SIGHT AND REFERENCE TABLE
For a rough view from the ground, allow camera access and align the on-screen line with a roof edge. This shows apparent slope, which only matches roof pitch when you face the gable square-on at about its height. It is not automatic edge detection. This mode does not take or store a photograph. The pitch table covers common values from 1/12 to 18/12 with angle, grade, rise per 10 and rafter factor.
LIMITS AND QUESTIONS
Does every phone support the gauge? An accelerometer is required. Can a locked reading be wrong? Yes: case shape, contact, motion and sensor behavior still matter. Use the app as a planning aid and verify critical measurements with a level. Avoid unsafe access to roofs or ladders; use an accessible rafter when appropriate.
The app contains advertising, Firebase Analytics and network-based ad configuration. Text sharing for job readings or estimates can be unlocked for 24 hours by watching a rewarded ad. Confirm measurements, quantities and material requirements before construction or purchasing.
Novidades
A locked gauge reading can now go straight to “Estimate”: tap “Estimate with this pitch” to fill the pitch while keeping the other numbers you entered. The job list stays as it was. To apply the reading again, use “Use this reading”, now labelled with its value.
