Descrição
Skate the 200 km Elfstedentocht in today's real Frisian wind, city by city.
Elfsteden Run is an endless runner on the route of the Elfstedentocht, the 200 km skating race over frozen canals through the eleven cities of Friesland. It is 05:30 in Leeuwarden, the floodlights are on, the start is behind you and you are already skating among the field. Ahead lie Sneek, Stavoren, Harlingen, Dokkum and every town in between, and the only way to the finish is to keep your legs and your warmth together all day.
Swipe to change lane, tap to push off, and hold to tuck in behind another skater out of the wind or to duck under a low bridge. Pushing alone is fast but costs your legs, and the wind costs warmth; drafting saves both but holds you to the pace of the skater in front. Cracked ice, reed banks and klunen stretches, where you walk on your skates over land, break your rhythm, and a koek-en-zopie stall is the place to warm up again. Reach the stamp post in every city before the cold takes you off the ice. The wind on each leg of Elfsteden Run comes from today's real weather in Friesland, so a headwind on the way to Stavoren today can be a tailwind tomorrow, and every day skates differently.
Every run ends with a stamp card showing your time at each city, and eleven stamps earn you the Elfstedenkruisje. Your fastest time is set against all fifteen winners from 1909 to 1997. The archive holds every tocht, and you can skate any of them in its own conditions, including the Hell of '63. The ice report shows live temperature and wind for the eleven cities and estimates whether the ice would pass the 15 cm rule. Elfsteden Run also lets you practice from any city on the route when you want to work on a single leg.
