Paint a metal plate, run the heat flow and watch 👀 it settle to equilibrium
Paint a metal plate, run the heat flow and watch 👀 it settle to equilibrium.
Aviator is a heat flow bench for your phone 📱. You paint a square plate with different materials, set its edges and watch 👀 the heat spread across it.
Pick a material from the palette, such as copper, aluminium, brass, carbon steel, stainless steel, granite, glass or oak. Drag ✋ your finger over the plate to paint it. Each material shows its conductivity and diffusivity, so you can see 👀 why ❓ heat moves fast ⚡ in one place and slowly in another.
Press Run and the plate warms from the hot edge to the cold edge. Switch between three views: temperature with labelled contour lines, heat flux arrows, and a settle map 🗺️. Place probes on the plate to follow their temperature over time ⏱️ on a trace chart 📊. The bench tells you when the plate has reached equilibrium and how long it took.
What you can do in Aviator:
- Paint plates with eight stock materials, or add your own
- Set edges, pins and probes
- Run the simulation at an adjustable time ⏱️ warp
- Read temperature, flux and settle views
- Work through eight briefs with temperature and settle-time ⏱️ targets
- Save 💾 plates to your library 📚 and browse the reference plates
- Log 📝 runs and compare ⚖️ settle times in the run log
- Read the field guide, and switch between °C and °F in settings
Aviator is a quiet tool 🛠️ for students, makers and anyone who wants to see 👀 how heat moves through a solid.
