Calcio Storico

Calcio Storico is a turn-based tactics game about Calcio Storico Fiorentino, the 27-a-side brawl-football that Florence's four historic quarters play every June on the sand of Piazza Santa Croce. You lead the Azzurri of Santa Croce through one June at a time: friendlies in Oltrarno squares, a semifinal, and the final on 24 June, the feast of San Giovanni. Each match is a short board of twelve turns, fifty minutes on the clock. Drag your men to run, tackle, pass or hold a wall, and get the ball over the net along the far end for a caccia. A throw that sails over the top gives the rivals half a caccia. Every tackle shows its odds before you let go. Teammates beside the target help, but join a three-on-one and Messer Gino, the referee with the plumed hat, may send your man off. Captain Bernardo "Naso Rotto" charges first at every cannon shot, and nobody can hold him back. Every evening is played in the temperature actually recorded in Florence on that June date. In the heat, every tackle costs more breath. The crowd's chant shifts momentum, and each new season replays an earlier June with its own weather. Friendly wins train your players, and the Albo d'oro keeps every result, streak and Palio.
