Coin Volcano

Coin Volcano is a volcanic eruption modelling tool 🛠️. You build 🔨 a magma from its oxide chemistry, dissolved water and carbon dioxide, temperature and crystal content, and the app 📱 names the rock, works out its viscosity, and finds where its first gas bubble forms. Take that magma and give it a volcanic system: a chamber at depth, a conduit up to the vent, an edifice, and an atmosphere to erupt into. Run the model and it resolves the ascent from the chamber roof to the vent, stage by stage, and produces a full eruption report 🧾. The report names the eruption style, gives the peak mass eruption rate, column height, duration and VEI, and charts 📊 the pressure, gas fraction, velocity and viscosity down the conduit. It also ranks which input drives the outcome most, and shows the consequences: tephra dispersal, lava flow run-out, and pyroclastic density currents where they occur. Beyond a single run, Coin Volcano lets you put a system under synthetic monitoring. An episode generates a full unrest record — ground deformation, earthquake rates, gas flux and heat — and you commit to a forecast as it unfolds. Each forecast is scored against what actually happens, and your skill is tracked over time ⏱️ on a rank ladder. Every run is archived, so you can filter 🎚️ it by eruption style, VEI or system, compare ⚖️ two runs side by side, or sweep a single input to find the threshold where the eruption style flips.
