Send messages by flashlight when there’s no signal
When there’s no signal at a dark campsite, Beamie lets two phones exchange messages using a flashlight and a camera.
Send a message by flashlight across a field, lake or dorm hallway without shouting. One phone blinks its flashlight while the other watches through its camera. Choose a ready-made phrase or build a message from words, then see how many flashes and roughly how many seconds it will take before sending.
Beamie needs darkness, a clear line of sight and a steady aim. Light is slow, and messages can be missed. Error correction can repair a few missed flashes. Turn on delivery receipts and your phone keeps sending until the other phone flashes back a receipt.
Send on the public channel, which nearby Beamie users can read, or use a Private Channel encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Share the channel’s 24-digit code in person or by QR code; it is never flashed.
Free includes ready-made phrases and building-block words, 20 messages a day and one Private Channel. The first row of phrases never counts toward the limit, and receiving is unlimited. Beamie Pro is a one-time purchase that adds your own words, unlimited sending and channels, and games played by light: chess, checkers, tic-tac-toe and Signal Fleet.
There are no ads and no account, and no Wi-Fi, cell signal or Bluetooth is needed.
Beamie is for entertainment only, not an emergency or safety device. Don’t rely on it for navigation or where a missed message could put someone at risk.
Co nowego
Wording across the app is clearer and more consistent. The app now uses “flashlight” instead of “torch” and US spelling throughout.
