Hindi & English idioms and sayings: meanings, real examples and their history.
Say a little. Mean a lot.
UKTI is a calm place to learn Hindi मुहावरे and कहावतें and English idioms and sayings, and to use them well. It has more than 1,100 checked expressions, and it shows you one ukti at a time.
ONE UKTI AT A TIME
Today gives you a short set of expressions, one card at a time. Read the meaning, tap to see it in a real sentence, then love it, skip it or open it. When you finish, Today says so and rests until the next set.
YOUR LANGUAGE, YOUR CHOICE
Choose Hindi, English or both. Hindi expressions are explained in English and English expressions in Hindi, with a Roman transliteration for every Hindi phrase.
MEANING, TONE AND REAL EXAMPLES
Every entry has a plain meaning, original example sentences for everyday situations (work, family, conversation), the tone it carries, and a note on how people commonly misuse it.
THE STORY BEHIND EACH SAYING
Where did a saying come from, and what did it first mean? UKTI shows what the sources support: a line from a poet such as Tulsidas or Vrind, an entry in an 1886 dictionary of Hindustani proverbs, or a clear note when the origin is not known. Sources are linked, and stories are never invented.
YUKTI AI
Yukti AI picks expressions for you based on what you love, the time of day and, only if you switch it on, your city and weather. An optional practice coach gives feedback on sentences you write. Yukti AI uses a third-party AI service through our server; nothing is sent until you ask.
SAVE, PIN AND PRACTISE
Save expressions to your collection, pin the ones you want to remember, add notes, and practise by writing sentences of your own. Coins and badges recognise steady learning. Coins are free learning points: they cannot be bought, spent or exchanged.
GROW THE LIBRARY
Know an expression worth sharing? Submit it. An editor checks every contribution before it joins the library.
BROWSE FREELY
Read without an account. A free account syncs your collection and progress across your devices. Downloaded expressions stay readable offline.
