You run on warm sand beside a turquoise sea, a windsock flapping by the net, while a local champion waits on the other side. Six beaches, six champions and one long summer tour stand between you and the title at Storm Shore. FEATURES THE SUMMER TOUR Six beaches are pinned to the tour board like postcards: Sunny Cove, a sheltered bay; Palm Point, a breezy headland; the shallow lagoon of Coral Reef; Surf City with its big waves and big wind; Dune Bay with sand everywhere; and Storm Shore, the finals in a gale. Each has its own champion, from Coco and Kai to Duke, Sahara and Tempest. Win a beach and its postcard is stamped VISITED, and the next stretch of coast opens. Good wins collect up to three suns per beach, eighteen in total. THE WIND A windsock and a meter above the court show the breeze in metres per second, and gusts come and go during a rally. A tailwind carries a clear long and out, so play the drop instead. Into a headwind a drop falls short into the net, so clear it. The key that suits the wind glows, and the Wind School card on the home page is there whenever you need a reminder. SANDCASTLES Little castles stand on your rival's half of the court. Land the shuttle on one and it flattens, winning you the point plus extra shells. Dune Bay has five of them, and knocking down four in a single match earns the Demolition Day shell. SIMPLE CONTROLS Drag across the sand and your player runs to your finger. A ring in the sand shows where the shuttle will land, so you always know where to be. Three round keys handle the serve, clear, drop and smash. THE BEACH SHACK Shells earned in matches buy swimsuits, from Lifeguard red and Tropic Print to Sunset Stripe, Lime Pop and Champion Gold, plus spray jars that colour the shuttle's trail: Sea Foam, Coral, Sunbeam, Lagoon and Rainbow. THE SHELL BOX AND HOLIDAY DIARY Twelve achievements are seashells collected along the tideline, such as Castle Crusher, Gale Rider for winning in wind of 1.8 m/s or more, and Clean Sweep for an 11-0 match. The Holiday Diary keeps your numbers as Polaroid captions: matches played and won, longest rally, smash winners, castles flattened and suns collected. A: No. Every beach plays offline and there is nothing to sign up for. It runs on phones and tablets, with the layout adjusting to the screen. Q: Are there adverts or purchases? A: Neither. Shells are earned only by playing, and everything in the shack is bought with them. Q: Can Storm Shore really be won? A: Yes, but not by power alone.
