uMechanics is a car repair and maintenance app for vehicle owners — one place to work out what's wrong, learn how to fix it, find someone to fix it, and keep a record of everything that's been done.
YOUR GARAGE
Add your vehicles by year, make and model, and switch between them. Guides, parts, maintenance and diagnostics are all scoped to the vehicle you have selected. Engine, drivetrain and trim options are filled in from public U.S. vehicle data, or decoded straight from your VIN.
WORK OUT WHAT'S WRONG
• Guided diagnosis — pick the affected system, choose the symptoms you're seeing, and get ranked likely causes with estimated difficulty.
• AI diagnosis — describe it in your own words ("grinding from the front when braking, worse at low speed") and get likely causes for your specific vehicle.
• OBD-II — pair a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter to read live sensor data and trouble codes. The adapter is optional.
• AR part identification — point your camera at a component to identify it and jump to the related guide.
FIX IT YOURSELF
• Step-by-step repair guides by system — brakes, engine, electrical, suspension and more. Search them, filter by difficulty, and save favourites.
• Parts finder — look up parts that fit your vehicle and open retailer listings in your browser.
• Submit your own guide. Every community guide is reviewed by a moderator before anyone else can see it.
OR FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL
• Post a repair job and get bids from local mechanics and shops.
• Message them in the app, then rate and review them once the work is done.
• Local shops — find repair shops near you (allow the location prompt; shops are looked up by your coordinates).
KEEP THE RECORD
Log services, parts, mileage and cost per vehicle, and see the full service history.
SAFETY
Report and block controls in job chat, and every community guide is checked by a moderator before it is published. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from Settings at any time.
uMechanics is available in the United States. Vehicle data comes from the U.S. NHTSA catalog and U.S. EPA fuel-economy data; repair shop listings come from OpenStreetMap, and from Google Maps when OpenStreetMap is unavailable.
