Flip striped awnings so each lemon tree gets its exact sun tally
On the coastal terraces of Sorrenzo, every lemon tree keeps its own private arithmetic. One wants four sunny days and three shaded ones. Its neighbor wants the opposite. Your job is to make the numbers come out right, and the only tool you have is a row of striped awnings that can be flipped open or shut.
Each day you tap the terraces to flip awnings, but you only get a limited budget of flips before the day ends. Then night falls and the grove resolves: the trees take in whatever you gave them, sun or shade, and the tally moves one step closer to its target — or one step further away. Too much sun and a tree scorches. Too much shade and the fruit never ripens. There is no partial credit here, only the exact count.
The difficulty lives in the fact that awnings are not private property. One stretch of striped canvas may shelter two or three trees at once, so the shade you grant to a demanding tree is shade forced onto a neighbor that wanted light. Every flip is a negotiation between trees that will never agree. And when you think the plan is settled, the sea wind arrives in the night and moves canvas you had carefully positioned, so the morning terrace is not quite the one you left behind.
That is where the game really begins: planning not for one day but for the whole arc of a grove, sequencing flips so that the trees with the tightest tallies get served first, spending your daily budget where a single flip solves two problems at once, and leaving yourself enough slack to recover from a windy night. Good play looks calm from the outside — a few taps, a long pause, a decision — and feels like solving a small equation that happens to be made of canvas and sunlight.
Fourteen terraces wait along the coast, each one a fresh arrangement of trees, awnings and demands. Early groves teach the rhythm of the day-night cycle and the cost of a shared awning. Later ones hand you longer rows, stranger tallies and wind that cuts across your intentions, until you are reading a terrace the way a gardener reads weather.
There is nothing to rush and no timer pressing on you. You can sit with a terrace, flip an awning back and forth, and think about what tomorrow will cost before you commit to today. When the last night resolves and every tree in the grove ends on exactly its own number, the terrace quietly settles — and the next stretch of coast opens up.
Sorrenzo Flip is a game about scarcity and precision: a handful of flips, a grove full of conflicting wishes, and the satisfaction of making them all add up.
