Hold back Venice acqua alta with walkways, flood boards, pumps and sandbags
Passerelle is a tower defence game about acqua alta, the high tides that flood Venice. The siren sounds from the Campanile and the lagoon wells up through the drains. Water runs along the calli toward the campo, and you lay the city's real flood defences in its path.
Each sestiere has three tides that rise in centimetres with the sirocco and the moon. Your defences stay on the board between tides, so you can upgrade them as the water climbs. Every day there is also a Marea di oggi built on the real Venice tide forecast, and holding it keeps your streak going.
Features:
• Five real places to defend: Burano, the Giudecca, Cannaregio, the Rialto market and Piazza San Marco
• Four defences with their own rules: raised passerelle walkways, steel paratie in shop doors, pumps on the fondamenta and sandbag walls on bridges
• A real trade-off: an open shop soaks up water but floods and pays nothing; a sealed shop stays dry and pays
• Venetians who change the rules: Sior Toni reports the next wave first, Signora Elvira refuses to close her glass shop, Matteo lays walkways mid-tide
• The final tide replays the acqua granda of 12 November 2019: +187 cm
• Bollettino: the live Punta della Salute tide level, the Centro Maree forecast extremes, the wind and the moon phase, with the real siren tone ladder
• Optional morning notification with today's tide and its siren tones
• Cartoline: stamp every tide you hold onto a photo from your camera or gallery, and keep or send the postcard
The water is coming. Hold the city.
