Decode classic book quotes in 300 free English cryptogram puzzles, with hints that explain each step.
Choose between English and German in the app. All 300 English puzzles and 30 short German puzzles are free. One optional one-time purchase unlocks the remaining 324 German puzzles: 174 medium and 150 long. There are no subscriptions.
A cryptogram is a sentence with every letter swapped for another; no letter stands for itself. The English collection takes its sentences from books by Austen, Doyle, Thoreau, Chesterton, Burnett, Brontë, Dickens, Emerson, Jerome, Alcott, Montgomery and more. The German collection includes quotes from Goethe, Fontane, Storm, Keller and other authors. Once you solve a quote, the game shows its author and book.
Every English puzzle is checked for one reading in the game's dictionary and a solution reached without guessing. English hints use the shapes of words to fill one letter and explain why it fits. In German puzzles, a hint also fills one letter and explains the step.
A wrong letter is named, not punished. In English, Check points to the word affected by your letters and identifies a mistake. In German, Prüfen marks incorrect letters. There is no penalty for a wrong letter.
Choose short, medium or long puzzles. The English collection has 120 short, 120 medium and 60 long puzzles, from under 60 letters to 90 or more. Tap a cipher letter, then a key; a letter already used elsewhere moves to the new position.
No ads and no registration. Free and already unlocked puzzles can be solved offline. Buying and restoring the German pack require a connection to Google Play. Loading the store price and checking purchase status can also use that connection.
Your letters, solved puzzles and hint counts are saved on your device. Android backup may include them when enabled. Restoring a purchase restores access to the pack, not puzzle progress.
