Step up as the pass is played and catch them offside! Learn the offside rule.
The floodlights are on and the stands are packed. The opposition striker is lurking on the shoulder of your back line, ready to run in behind.
Step up the lagging defender right as the pass is played, and leave him stranded offside! Play 10 attacks and see how many you can stop. Along the way, you will learn exactly how the offside rule works.
■ STEP UP AT THE PASS
• You are the red back line. The opposition attack with dribbles, through balls and long balls
• Tap the number of a defender who is lagging behind, and he steps up to raise the line
• Too early and the striker drops back onside. After the pass is too late: offside is judged the moment the ball is kicked
• A VAR-style slow motion shows the line of the second-last defender, the receiver's line and the gap in centimetres
• When the receiver touches the ball, the assistant referee raises his flag: OFFSIDE!
■ READ THE SITUATION
• There is no offside from a throw-in, a goal kick or a corner kick
• A player behind the ball, or one starting in his own half, can't be offside either
• Then don't step up: press MARK and your defender gets tight to win the ball
• Step up at the wrong time and the attacker is left unmarked. Knowing which one to use is the key
■ THE REAL LAW (LAWS OF THE GAME, LAW 11)
• The goalkeeper counts as an opponent. If he comes off his line, step up the defender behind him
• Being in an offside position is not an offence unless the player gets involved
• Even for a long ball, offside is judged at the kick. Free kicks and keeper throws do count
• A defender who leaves the pitch counts as being on the goal line
• 13 situations picked at random, with new player positions every time
• Every result comes with a short explanation, and the full rules are on the title screen
■ TV-STYLE 3D VIEW
• Watch the back line from high in the main stand, just like a TV broadcast, so you can always see the line
• Packed stands, drums and clapping, and a rising roar as the ball comes into the box
• Cheers and fireworks every time you spring the trap
