Kokyo Runner: Palace Bike Ride

Morning at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The road along the moat is packed with joggers. Hop on your road bike and ride the full loop around the Palace (about 6 km), dodging runners, pedestrians, cars and motorbikes! ■ RIDE THE REAL TOKYO • Buildings come from PLATEAU, Japan's official 3D city model. Hills follow real elevation data, and lane counts follow OpenStreetMap • Start at Nijubashi-mae, ride past Otemon Gate, Takebashi, Kudanshita, Chidorigafuchi, Hanzomon Gate, Miyakezaka and Sakuradamon Gate, and finish back at Nijubashi-mae • Crawl up Kudan-zaka, then fly down Miyakezaka at 80 km/h! ■ SQUEEZE THROUGH • The moat-side lane is open to runners: solo joggers, pairs, trios, tired walkers, and the odd Edo-period hikyaku messenger • Cars come at you in the oncoming lanes, and motorbikes split the lanes. Swing out for speed, if you dare • You can ride on the sidewalk too, but Chidorigafuchi's cobblestones will shake you. Road edge or sidewalk? • Hit anyone and it's game over. Just clip an edge and you only slow down: "Grazed!" ■ SIMPLE CONTROLS • Left, right, brake and dash. That's it • You pedal automatically up to 40 km/h. Dashing past 40 km/h uses stamina ■ SIGHTSEEING AT SPEED • Nippon Budokan, Tokyo Station's Marunouchi Building, Otemon and Hirakawa-mon gates, Wadakura Fountain Park, Chidorigafuchi, Hanzomon Gate, the National Diet Building, Sakuradamon Gate and Nijubashi Bridge • At each landmark the camera swings around to show it off ■ FOUR STAGES • Morning, Day, Dusk and Night. Finish a stage to unlock the next, with more people and more traffic • From Day on, an oni riding a cloud chases you. When it catches up, lightning strikes! • Near Sakuradamon, Ii Naosuke's procession is crossing the road in the snow... find the gaps! ■ AND MORE • Fireworks at the finish.
