Germany's news in English, plus holidays for your state, Bundesliga and more.
What's going on in Germany today, in English, and what it means for you.
NOT A GOVERNMENT APP: German News in English is independent. It does not represent the German government, any state government or any government agency, and it is not affiliated with them. Official sources are linked below.
NEWS
German news in English from DW, The Local, DER SPIEGEL International, The Berlin Spectator, berlin.de, Clean Energy Wire and publishers across the web, by topic: politics, the economy, business, living in Germany, immigration and expat rules, housing, travel and transport, energy and climate, defence, sport, tech and education. When several outlets carry the same story, it shows once. Follow your city, from Berlin and Hamburg to Munich and Cologne, and the topics you care about, with a notification at most once a day for each, and never at night in Germany.
TODAY
Are the shops open? Sundays and public holidays close them, and every state has its own holidays: the app tells you, and warns you the day before ("closed tomorrow and Monday: shop today"). For your city: will it rain in the next hour, the weather today and tomorrow, official weather warnings from the German Weather Service, a strike watch for trains, airports and daycare, your Bundesliga club's last result and next match, and what the euro is worth in your home currency.
THE CALENDAR, FOR YOUR STATE
Public holidays and school holidays for your state, Oktoberfest, carnival and Christmas markets, the clock changes, and the money and paperwork dates newcomers miss: the tax return deadline, the broadcasting fee, switching health insurer, your landlord's deadline for last year's utility bill. Get a reminder the evening before the ones you choose.
BUNDESLIGA
The Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga tables, last week's results and the next fixtures. Follow your club and it leads the Today tab.
GERMAN EXPLAINED
Bundestag, Bürgergeld, debt brake, Anmeldung, Kita: when a headline uses a German term, tap it for a plain-English explanation. Or browse 178 of them, from politics and taxes to housing and health care. Works offline.
A GERMAN WORD A DAY
A word or phrase each day, with an example sentence and what it really means, from Feierabend to "Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof". Get it each morning if you like.

WHAT IT CAN'T DO
The news is written by the publishers it links to, not by us, and we aren't affiliated with them or with the German government. Holidays and deadlines are general: check yours with the official source. The rain radar and warnings are the German Weather Service's and the results are OpenLigaDB's; we show them, we don't make them.
