Description
Run a 20m beep test with audio pacing, VO2max estimates and result history
Beep test audio pacing gives your 20m shuttle run a clear structure: follow the signals, view the current level and shuttle, then review the result when you stop. Use it to practise the multi-stage fitness test or compare saved attempts without having to count each length in your head.
▶ Set up your run
Mark two lines 20 metres apart and check that you can hear the phone. Start at level 1 for the full sequence, or select level 3, 5, 8 or 10 for practice. A five-second countdown leads into the test. A later starting level is a practice session, so consider the starting point when comparing results.
▶ Follow the audio pacer
The bundled audio track provides shuttle signals and level-change signals across 21 levels. Speed increases as the test advances. The display shows level, shuttle, pace in km/h and distance in metres, with a progress indicator towards the next signal. Distance comes from the shuttle schedule; the phone does not measure the running course.
▶ Stop and understand the result
End the run manually when you finish. The result uses the last completed shuttle and includes a VO2max estimate based on the final level. This is a calculated value in mL/kg/min, not a measurement of oxygen uptake. Age and sex reference categories help put the estimate in context without making it a diagnosis.
▶ Keep a record and choose a target
Save individual results to review dated attempts, a personal best and a trend graph. Compare like-for-like sessions rather than treating every change as a health conclusion. You can select a bundled occupational or sport target and see the remaining shuttles during the run. These static references are for information; check the relevant organisation for current requirements. The app does not certify eligibility.
▶ Practical limits
Audio availability depends on device playback and volume. The app does not detect line crossings or decide when a runner drops out. It is an audio-guided running tool, not a GPS tracker or laboratory test. Advertisements and analytics are included. Prepare a suitable space and stop if you feel unwell.
This app is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. Consult a healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
Nouveautés
In a solo test, tapping “I'M OUT (STOP)” before your starting level is complete no longer opens a result. A “Result not saved yet” card explains how to set up a full 20 m test instead: “Show result anyway” opens the result as before, and “Got it” closes the card. Group tests, and stops later in the test, work as before. The countdown before a test now has a “Cancel” button. Also included: corrected completed-shuttle and group results, and group results now say they are not saved.
