A logic puzzle printed as the evening paper's puzzle page: ink on newsprint, huge drop numerals and engraved lamps. Place lamps so every white square is lighted, no two lamps see each other, and each numbered black square touches that many lamps. Every grid has one solution. The clues below, crossword style, describe what is inside. 1 Across · Eight-chapter serial (5) Story. Mira, the lamplighter's apprentice, lights an old town over eight chapters of four puzzles each, from The Ladder and the Wick to The Square of Lanterns.
