Paint a plate, add heat and watch how it warms up and settles
Paint a plate, add heat, and watch 👀 how it warms up and settles.
Ice Fishing is a heat bench for your phone 📱. You build 🔨 a small square plate, apply heat and cold, and watch 👀 the temperature spread across it in real time ⏱️.
Paint the plate with six materials: copper, aluminium, brass, steel, ceramic and cork. Each one conducts heat at its own pace. Place heaters and chillers as pins, and set each side of the plate as fixed at a temperature or insulated. Add up to four probes to follow single points.
Press Run and the colours move. Switch on isotherm lines to see 👀 lines of equal temperature, or flux arrows to see which way the heat flows. A live gauge shows the mean temperature, lab time ⏱️ and how close the plate is to equilibrium. When the plate settles, you get the time it took and its minimum, mean and maximum.
What you can do:
- Start 🚀 from six ready-made plates, such as a copper cross, a fin array or a thermal bridge
- Save 💾 your own plates to the library 📚
- Log 📝 runs to a journal and compare ⚖️ how long each took to settle
- Draw a cut line across a result and read the temperature profile along it
- Check ✅ probe dials and a convergence chart 📊
- Race two rods of different materials in the Codex
- Read each material's diffusivity and conductivity
- Switch between °C, °F and K, and pick a colour map 🗺️
Ice Fishing suits students, teachers and anyone curious about how heat moves through different materials. It works on your phone 📱, with no account.
Open Ice Fishing, paint a plate and press Run.
