Ring church bells with a village band: follow the changing order, strike in time
Plain Hunt is a rhythm game about English change ringing. You hold one rope in a band of six or eight ringers, and the order of the bells changes every row. Catch the striped sally on the hand-stroke, pull the tail end on the back-stroke, and strike your bell just after the one you follow.
The beat stays steady; the order does not. Captain Margaret calls the changes, from call changes to Plain Hunt and Plain Bob, and shouts "Bob!" mid-touch so the lead end changes. Old Walter's tenor always strikes a little late, and the real wind at each tower drifts the rhythm. Strike a touch at 75% or better and it goes on the peal board with your band photo; ring every piece at a tower to travel to the next one.
Features:
• Ringing engine built on real place notation: rounds, call changes, Plain Hunt, Plain Bob Minor and Major with Bobs
• Hand-stroke and back-stroke controls, judged like a striking competition: spot on, clashed, late, missed, wrong stroke
• Five towers on the band's tour: a Cotswold village, York Minster, St Paul's Cathedral, Christchurch and Sydney
• Live wind at each tower from Open-Meteo changes the timing drift
• Chalked method board: trace any bell's line through a method, with or without a Bob
• Peal board of your best touches, with photos from your camera or gallery
• Ellie's chalk notes show the next row while you learn
• Optional weekly practice-night reminder
Look to — treble's going.
