Khapha: Community Escort

Khapha: Community Escort is a grassroots safety initiative in South Africa designed to protect vulnerable individuals—particularly women and students—as they walk through high-risk neighborhoods or commute early in the morning and late at night. Mission & Functions Walking Escorts: Local community members and volunteers physically walk with individuals to and from public transport hubs (like train stations and taxi ranks), schools, or workplaces. Crime Deterrence: By walking in groups or providing a visible presence, the initiative minimizes the risk of muggings, sexual assault, and harassment. Community-Led Surveillance: Volunteers act as eyes and ears on the ground, working to reclaim street safety without relying solely on formal law enforcement.
