Analyse ceramic glaze recipes, solve for fixes and plan kiln firings
Analyse ceramic glaze recipes, solve for fixes and plan 🗺️ kiln firings.
Gems Ques is a glaze chemistry workbench 🛠️ for potters. Write a recipe from raw materials and read what it becomes in the kiln.
Start 🚀 from one of ten classic bases or enter your own recipe. For each glaze, the app 📱 runs five checks: fit, melt, surface, stability and colour. Each check ✅ shows a plain result and the numbers 🔢 behind it. You see at a glance if a glaze is ready to test or needs care.
Look deeper on the chemistry view. It shows the unity formula, silica to alumina ratio, expansion, melt index and loss on ignition. A Stull chart 📊 places your glaze among your others. Limit bars show which oxides sit outside the range for your cone. A fired oxide breakdown 🧾 finishes the picture.
When a check ✅ fails, use Solve. Pick a glaze and a goal 🎯, such as curing crazing or taming a running melt. Choose the materials you have on the shelf. Gems Ques writes a new ✨ recipe from them and shows the before and after values side by side.
Ready to mix 🥣? The batch mixer scales any recipe to your dry weight, gives the water for your dipping, spraying or brushing density, and lets you tick off each material as you weigh it.
Plan 🗺️ the firing too. Set the cone, the ware thickness, the load density and the glazes in the kiln. The app 📱 builds a segment by segment schedule 🗓️ with a firing curve and holds and cooling tailored to the load.
Features:
- Ten classic glaze bases, or your own recipes
- Five checks per glaze: fit, melt, surface, stability, colour
- Unity formula, Stull chart 📊 and oxide limits
- Solve for a recipe from the materials you own
- Batch mixer with water and weighing checklist
- Kiln schedules with a firing curve
- Temperatures in °C or °F
Use Gems Ques at the bench, at the scale and beside the kiln.
