Taktiva: Chess Puzzles

Taktiva trains your chess tactics with puzzles chosen for your rating. The puzzles you get wrong come back a few days later, so you learn the patterns rather than just the answers. All 29,891 puzzles come with the app; it works without an internet connection, with no account and no ads. PUZZLES • 29,891 puzzles selected from the Lichess puzzle database (public domain, CC0): well-played, well-rated puzzles with a settled rating, from 600 to 2800 and across 16 themes • Each puzzle's Lichess ID is shown in the info panel WAYS TO PLAY • Training: puzzles near your rating; choose Easier, My rating or Harder • Daily puzzle: a new puzzle every day, the same on every device • Themes: mate in 1, 2 and 3, back-rank mate, fork, pin, skewer, discovered attack, sacrifice, deflection, attraction, intermezzo, hanging piece, pawn, rook and queen endgames • Puzzle rush: 3 or 5 minutes or no time limit; from easy to hard, ends at the third mistake; your best scores are kept • My mistakes: puzzles you got wrong are asked again three days later • Favourites: keep the puzzles you like; five samples are included SOLVING • The opponent's first move is played on the board, then it is your turn • Move by dragging, by tapping two squares, with the keyboard (arrow keys and Enter) or by typing the move (piece letters in your language, piece symbols, or e2e4) • Any other move that also gives checkmate counts as correct; on promotion you choose the piece • After a wrong move: Try again or Show solution • Two-step hint: first the piece to move, then the squares it can reach • Step through the moves and flip the board RATING AND PROGRESS • Your rating is calculated on this device with Glicko-2, from puzzles you try for the first time; a puzzle solved with a hint does not change it • The puzzle's rating and theme stay hidden until it is solved (can be changed in Settings) • Rating chart for 7 days, 30 days or a year; puzzles solved and the share right on the first try; puzzle rush best; days in a row • Success by theme, with your weakest themes to practise BOARD AND SETTINGS • FigBell's own piece set and four board colours; coordinates • Moves written with letters or piece symbols • Move sounds generated on the device • Daily puzzle reminder FILES AND SHARING • Share the position as an image with its FEN, save it as PNG or copy the FEN • Save your progress as a .taktiva file and open it on another device • Back up and restore Available in 11 languages, in dark and light themes, on phone, tablet and computer.
